Continuous efforts of Başkent EDAŞ during severe storms

  • Başkent EDAŞ teams sustained their efforts continuously despite the challenging weather conditions in Zonguldak, where the storm speed exceeded 120 kilometers per hour, roofs were blown off and trees were uprooted, damaging the power lines.
  • While electricity distribution teams issue controlled outages against any possible electrocutions due to floods in Merkez and Ereğli districts of Zonguldak, the teams struggled due to snow and blizzards in higher areas.

Başkent Elektrik Dağıtım A.Ş. (Başkent EDAŞ) maintains its efforts for continuous supply of electricity in Zonguldak, which was severely affected by strong storms and rain.

Completing its preparations in line with the warnings of AFAD (Disaster and Emergency Management Presidency) and the General Directorate of Meteorology, Başkent EDAŞ began interventions once a strong storm had impacted the electricity distribution lines as from Sunday morning.

Başkent EDAŞ kept on repairing the power lines that were damaged due to roofs being blown off or trees being uprooted and falling because of the storm, of which the speed exceeded 120 kilometers per hour and continued throughout the day with heavy rain.

In the higher parts of the city covered with dense forests, the teams endeavor to repair damaged grid components despite snow and blizzards.

  • Controlled outages due to flood

Following the rainfall accompanying by the storm, mainly affecting Merkez, Ereğli and Alaplı districts in Zonguldak, Başkent EDAŞ issued controlled outages against the risk of electrocution due to the rising flood waters in the Merkez and Ereğli districts.

Supplying energy to critical facilities via generators due to these outages, Başkent EDAŞ endeavored to supply uninterrupted energy to the governorate, municipalities, hospitals, police stations and dams that meet water requirements, etc.

  • Additional teams operate in Zonguldak

Başkent EDAŞ deployed disaster teams to the region before the impacts of the storm hit the region, due to the recent increase of disasters in the region such as heavy snowfall, floods, etc.

Thanks to the additional teams arriving at Zonguldak from Kastamonu, Karabük and Ankara, the company increased the number of field employees to 196 and the number of vehicles to 485. To avoid the risk of the disaster extending its impact to Kastamonu and Bartın, the company increased the total number of employees in the region to 1081 and the number of vehicles to 485.

Heavy machinery such as bucket excavators, cranes and excavators were deployed in the region in order to support the field teams.

  • Disaster resilience of the grid reinforced through investments and maintenance

Providing services with 3,356 transformers and on 16,522-kilometer-long distribution line in Zonguldak in the first nine months of the year, Başkent EDAŞ completed its repair & maintenance works as well as investments in order to offer sustainable and uninterrupted energy, even during the upcoming winter conditions.

Whilst Başkent EDAŞ carries out the maintenance operations of panels, substations and distribution centers, the Company also reinforced the resilience of the grid due to the recent disasters with its investments in order to provide better service to more than 415,000 customers it serves in Zonguldak.
